The Kits have had a wonderful last week of term. We have been focusing on transitions and the children who are moving up to ‘The Squirrels’ in September have enjoyed spending time in their new classroom and meeting their new teachers. We have also welcomed some of our new Kits who will be starting in September for ‘Stay and Play’ sessions and it has been wonderful to see them settling in and exploring the new environment and activities we have on offer.
This week we were particularly excited to observe that our caterpillars, which have formed cocoons have now hatched into butterflies! We gave then some fruit to eat and set them free in the garden so that they could find a new home.
Our Role Play Area has been set up as a Hairdressers this week and the children have loved trying on the different wigs and styling their friends' and teachers’ hair. The Role Play Area is a great opportunity to develop the children’s social skills through play. It also provides an opportunity to develop their communication and language skills by exploring new vocabulary and adding a narrative to their play.
Our Outdoor Learning Environment has continued to be popular with the children and they have been busy exploring how water flows by pouring it into different containers and down the drain pipes. We have also been getting messy while outside with the shaving foam, sand and mud in the mud kitchen making cakes, drinks and potions! The messy tray has also been busy with diggers moving the mud and children have loved using them to explore the different marks and tracks they could make through the mud.
To celebrate the end of the term we held an end of term party. This was the highlight of the week and we had a lot of fun playing games and dancing together. We also enjoyed eating some delicious snacks which we made at nursery in the week. The children have had a great year and we are all very proud of the progress they have made. Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing the children again in September!
